Olav Nielsen is an artist based in Dunedin, New Zealand. He specializes in the use of mezzotint and burnished aquatint. He has numerous awards and exhibitions to his credit.
Olav Nielsen had his first exhibition more that 10 years ago in Dunedin and has since then exhibited extensively. His work is now held in public and private collections throughout new Zealand as well as Australia, USA, Canada, UK, and Denmark. He recently featured in Mind Food Magazine (Jan/Feb 09) as an emerging investment artist to look out for.
Olav Nielsen was born in Denmark in 1978 and immigrated to New Zealand at the age of twelve. He completed his formal art training at the Otago Polytechnic School of Art in 2000. After graduating he travelled for a number of years before returning to Dunedin to set up a studio from where he has been working full time since 2003.
Olav has described his art making as a process of coming to know different aspects of himself; "the intertwining of personal history with the present, wants for the future, and the daily sensation of living as a physical being".
